Shiatsu

Shiatsu, meaning finger pressure in Japanese, is a form of therapeutic massage based on traditional Chinese medical systems from which acupuncture stems from.

Healing in these traditions involves unblocking, balancing and stimulating the flow of energy throughout one’s body and one’s life.

Shiatsu Room

On a basic level shiatsu aims to release tension, decrease stress and encourage a sense of increased wellbeing by bringing balance to your body’s physical, emotional and energetic systems.

Beyond reducing physical tension, hence reducing mental stress, focused and aware shiatsu has the potential to help in the clarification, integration and transformation of emotional issues.

To this end shiatsu aims not only to align the body and mind but also to facilitate emotional growth.

My shiatsu work is individually tailored and specifically attuned to balancing the emotional energies of the bodymind.

Shiatsu is undertaken on a slim futon on the ground with clothes on. A deep but gentle pressure is applied with fingers, thumbs, palms and elbows to one’s meridian and pressure points. Body stretches are also a fundamental part of Shiatsu.
